Lead With Your Best Story

Own Your Leadership Story, and Find Your Leadership Excellence!

We all get pressure from the cultures we are born into and guide as we evolve as leaders. Whatever your gender, race, education, class, or gifts, organizations and societies will have opinions about where and how you’re fit to lead.

It takes courage to lead in alignment with who we are, not who we are expected to be. But it’s worth it, because our leadership becomes more sustainable, more resilient, more authentic, and ultimately, more impactful.

Innovative Leaders Lead From Their Best Story

Courageous leadership begins with courageous self-knowledge. Every leader negotiates their roles in communities of colleagues and followers. Work subcultures change vee-ee-eeery slowly; national cultures change even more slowly. But that doesn’t mean you have to give in to the peer pressure and make your story small.

The leadership tool I recommend for my clients and workshops is the Pearson Marr Archetype Indicator (PMAI), a cousin of the Meyer’s Briggs Assessment, identifies the archetypes (primal cultural stories that shape your identity, your expectations and your actions) that are most powerful in your life.

The creators identify twelve archetypes that are primary in any culture, and let you know which ones are dominant in your identity, and which ones are less dominant. The report summarizes general characteristics for each archetype that help you see how your leadership style is shaped by the stories you’re living by. (If you’re curious, check out Carol Pearson’s 2022 book: What Stories Are You Living?: Discover Your Archetypes - Transform Your Life!)*
